COS Certification Only - New Continuing Education Requirement
Those who hold the COS designation are, collectively, responsible for administering billions of federal dollars each and every year. We must be accountable to our residents, and the American taxpayer. This is why NCHM is implementing a COS continuing education requirement. COS is an important designation, so we hope you understand the necessity of this new requirement.
This requirement will be enforced when:
For instance, when Revision 1 was issued on June 1, 2003 we required all COS certification holders who received their designation before that date to update their certification with training on the new guidelines. We made a similar decision with regard to Change 2 to the Handbook issued in June of 2007.
Benefits of Active Certification Include:
Housing Management Official Certification Card - Upon receipt of your annual certification renewal fee of$95 (covers any and all certifications), NCHM will promptly mail you your personalized housing management "Official Certification" card. Certification is the Key!
Like other nationally recognized credentials, your NCHM designation must be renewed on a yearly basis. Failure to renew your designation forces NCHM to terminate your certification. Once your account goes into a terminated status there is a $50 administrative “reinstatement fee” to bring you back to active status.
Renewing your certification helps us continue to strengthen and professionalize the industry. We have created a system whereby housing management professionals are rewarded, promoted, and advanced because of the credentials they have earned. Consequently, many have been denied promotions, advances, or even employment because they have not gained entry into this select group.
When your designation is classified as terminated in our database, not only are you excluded from NCHM certification benefits, but it is as if you never took the certification course or examination at all. Your name is removed from our database and the National Register. NCHM incurs great expense to maintain our extensive database of certified professionals and we cannot keep non-certified professionals in our system. Once your account goes into a terminated status there is a $50 administrative “reinstatement fee” to bring you back to active status.
NCHM has invested millions in the pursuit of our mandate to establish a credible, reputable, recognized profession. From our work on Capitol Hill to our many efforts to keep pace with the information age, members of the NCHM team have been tirelessly devoted to this singular pursuit.
Failure to renew your certification will result in exclusion from the only established career network in this industry. You owe it to yourself to advance your career by renewing your hard-earned credential today.
