The National Center for Housing Management (NCHM) has, since its inception, been devoted to strengthening the government housing industry through training and certification initiatives. This mission, articulated by Executive Order 11668 of the President of the United States (1972), has been at the core of all our efforts. The extent to which we as an organization have been successful is manifested by the many thousands of housing management professionals who are proud bearers of NCHM certifications.
In recognition of NCHM’s obligations to our industry, we set forth herewith our Code of Ethics for housing management professionals who have attained one or more of our certifications:
A NCHM CERTIFIED HOUSING MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL SHALL:
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times during the conduct of business, mindful that they are guardians of not only their personal reputations, but also the professional reputation of their employer;
- Safeguard all confidential information, originating from either employer, co-workers or residents;
- Be mindful of any fiduciary responsibilities to both their employer and the property owner;
- Seek ways in which to continue their professional education, and to make a commitment to compliance with federal, state or local housing regulations;
- Commit to treating applicants and residents in a fair, courteous and respectful manner and to comply with federal, state or local civil rights regulations;
- Not engage in any conduct or practice which may tend to be regarded as a conflict of interest or which may place the property in jeopardy;
- Comply with any requirements imposed by local practices in connection with any real estate or brokers license.
