HUD Katrina Update: The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has issued a notice implementing a waiver for Public and Indian Housing Authorities who were impacted by Hurricane Katrina, or who are involved in housing relief efforts. The rule, issued on September 27, 2005 and posted on the HUDCLIPS website, www.hudclips.org on October 3, 2005 sets forth the process that Public and Indian Housing Authorities must follow to request waivers of certain regulatory requirements. These waivers are time limited, and the notice provides explicit details for those regulations which can be waived as well as those which cannot. These waivers are subject to change at HUD's discretion. These waivers apply only to Public and Indian Housing, not to any other HUD program area.
