The most common errors NCHM finds when performing file audits have to do with medical expense calculations. These run the gamut from not counting medical expenses at all to improperly deducting expenses that do not qualify.
In this live webinar, NCHM Vice President of Housing Programs Lisa Vercauteren will clear away some of the confusion surrounding medical expenses and, guided by HUD Handbook 4350.3, REV-1, will present examples of properties that complied with this important occupancy rule – and others that did not.
Questions that Lisa will address include:
Does HUD allow a medical deduction for pills that contain synthetic marijuana?
If a resident buys their prescription medicine in Canada or Mexico, is it an allowable medical expense?
Change 4 eliminated the provision in Exhibit 5-3 that allowed incontinence supplies as a medical expense. Does this mean they're no longer to be included as part of the deduction?
